Quick answer
In the UAE you can register a word mark (a brand name), a logo, a combined name and logo, a slogan, and newer types such as three-dimensional shapes, colours, sounds and holograms — as long as the sign is distinctive. Collective marks for associations are possible too.

Word mark (brand name)
Protects the name itself, in any font, colour or style. Usually the broadest protection for a brand. File the Arabic version too if you trade under it. See name vs logo.
Logo (figurative mark)
Protects a design, with or without words, as filed. Filing in black and white keeps it flexible; file in colour if the colours matter.
Combined mark
The name and logo together, exactly as they appear. Cheaper than two filings, but it protects the combination rather than the name on its own.
Slogan or tagline
A slogan can be registered if it is distinctive — not just a description or a common phrase such as “best quality”. Short, unusual slogans have the best chance.
Three-dimensional shape and packaging
The shape of a product or its packaging (a bottle, a box) can be a trademark when it is distinctive and not dictated by function. Show it clearly from several angles.
Colour
A specific colour or combination of colours can be protected when customers recognise it as your brand — usually after long use. Expect the Ministry to ask for evidence.
Sound mark
A jingle or sound logo can be registered under the 2021 law if it is distinctive. It is filed with a recording and a description.
Collective marks
A mark owned by an association or group and used by its members to show membership or common standards.
