Register your UAE trademark yourself, or use an agent?

The Ministry’s online service makes self-filing possible for UAE residents. Here is when that works — and when an agent saves you money.

Quick answer

If you are a UAE resident or UAE company with a simple word mark in one class, you can file yourself online with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. Owners based outside the UAE must use a registered UAE trademark agent. An agent is worth it when the name may be close to others, you need several classes, or you get an objection or opposition.

When doing it yourself is fine

  • A distinctive word mark — not descriptive, no place names (check it with the free health check).
  • One class that clearly fits your business.
  • No similar names in your class (name check).

When an agent saves you money

  • The name is close to marks already filed — a refusal means the fees you paid are lost.
  • You need several classes, or the goods list is unusual.
  • You are based outside the UAE (an agent is required).
  • The Ministry objects, or someone opposes your mark — these have short deadlines.

Questions

Can I register a trademark in the UAE without a lawyer?
Yes, if you are a UAE resident or UAE company: file online with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. Owners based outside the UAE must use a registered UAE trademark agent.
How much does a UAE trademark agent charge?
It depends on the firm and the work. Agent fees are on top of the official AED 6,500 per class — on TrademarksHub every offer from a UAE firm lists both.
Are official fees lower if I file myself?
No. Official fees are the same; you only save the agent’s fee — and take the risk of a refusal yourself.
