Filing an opposition
- Deadline: 30 days from the date of the Trademark Bulletin.
- Official fee: AED 7,500.
- Documents: a statement of objection, and a notarised, translated power of attorney if an agent files.
Common grounds include an earlier registered or filed mark, an earlier well-known mark, and bad faith.
If your application is opposed
The Ministry notifies you, and you must answer within 30 days — if you do not, the application is treated as abandoned. A hearing can then be scheduled. The Ministry quotes an average of about 60 working days for this service.
Appeals
A party unhappy with the decision can go to the grievance committee within 30 days, and then to the Federal Court of Appeal within 30 days. An opponent whose opposition is dismissed pays an official grievance fee of AED 7,500.
Watch the Bulletin
A 30-day window is short. Brand owners use watch services to spot similar marks as soon as they are published. Firms on TrademarksHub can set up a watch for your marks.
