UAE trademark search

Before you file — or invest in a brand — check whether someone already owns the same or a similar mark in the UAE.

Find a trademark firm in the UAE

Quick answer

You can check whether a trademark is taken in the UAE with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism’s official Trademark Inquiry service, which costs AED 350 and returns results immediately. Search similar spellings, Arabic and English versions, and related classes — or ask a firm for a clearance search.

Official trademark inquiry

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism offers a Trademark Inquiry service that searches the trademark register for marks that have been filed or registered. It costs AED 350, needs no documents, and results come back immediately online.

What to search for

  • The exact name, and spellings that sound or look alike.
  • Arabic and English versions and transliterations of the name.
  • Your classes and related classes (for example, Class 30 and Class 43 for a café).
  • Distinctive elements of your logo.

Why a professional search helps

Marks are refused when they are confusingly similar, not only identical. A firm reviews close hits, judges the risk, and can suggest changes to the name or the goods and services before you pay filing fees. Post a request and firms that cover the UAE can quote for a clearance search.

Company name vs trademark

Reserving a trade name with your licensing authority does not register a trademark, and a trademark search is separate from a trade-name check. Many disputes start when a licensed trade name clashes with someone else’s registered trademark.

Questions

How do I check if a trademark is registered in the UAE?
Use the Ministry of Economy and Tourism Trademark Inquiry service (AED 350) or ask a trademark firm for a clearance search.
Is my trade licence name protected as a trademark?
No. A trade name and a trademark are different. Register the brand as a trademark to protect it.
