The paperwork for a standard UAE trademark is short. Here is what each type of applicant needs.

Standard trademark (goods or services)

  • A clear image of the mark in JPEG format.
  • The list of goods and services and their classes.
  • A copy of the trade licence if the applicant is a UAE company or establishment. UAE-based individuals do not need a licence.
  • A power of attorney, notarised, if a registered agent files for you.

Owners outside the UAE

Foreign owners must file through a trademark agent registered with the Ministry. The power of attorney must be notarised, legalised and translated into Arabic. Your agent will tell you how legalisation works for your country.

Collective and quality marks

Collective marks need the articles of association and the rules for authorised users, use, control and membership. Quality (certification or inspection) marks need the articles of association, declarations and standards, and a description of the certified goods or services — notarised, legalised and translated into Arabic.

Tips

  • Use the same owner name as on your trade licence.
  • File the logo exactly as you use it; a later change to the design usually needs a new application.
  • Keep copies of everything — you will need them for renewal and transfers.
