How classes work in the UAE
- The UAE uses the Nice Classification. The 13th edition applies to new UAE applications filed from 27 January 2026.
- One application can cover several classes. Official fees (AED 6,500) are charged per class.
- Your registration protects only the goods and services listed. Use clear, specific terms.
- A mark that is registered but not used for five years in a row can be challenged for non-use, so do not file classes you will never use.
Which classes do most businesses need?
Product brands file the class of their goods; service businesses file the class of their service; and anyone who sells through shops or online often adds Class 35. Not sure? See classes by business type — for example restaurants, real estate or perfume brands.
