The classes restaurants need
- Class 43 Restaurants, cafés & accommodationRestaurant, take-away, cloud-kitchen and catering services — the core class for any food outlet.
Classes to add, depending on your business
- Class 35 Advertising, business & retail servicesFranchising support, business management for branches, or running an online shop.
- Class 30 Coffee, tea, bakery & staple foodsPackaged sauces, spices, bread, sweets or coffee sold under your brand.
- Class 29 Meat, fish, dairy & preserved foodsPackaged dairy, meat products, ready meals, pickles or edible oils.
- Class 39 Transport, storage & travelYour own delivery service (not just using delivery apps).
- Class 9 Electronics, computers & softwareA downloadable ordering app under the restaurant name.
Common mistakes
- Filing only in Class 29 or 30 — those protect food products, not the restaurant service.
- Leaving out the logo: if customers know you by a logo, file it as well as the name.
- Forgetting future plans: a brand that will sell bottled sauces in supermarkets needs the goods classes before launch.
What it costs in the UAE
Official UAE fees are AED 6,500 per class, so the core classes above cost AED 6,500 in official fees. See the UAE cost guide.
Questions
Is a cloud kitchen in the same class as a restaurant?
Yes. Cloud kitchens and take-away food services fall in Class 43, like a dine-in restaurant.
Does Class 43 cover food delivery?
Preparing the food is Class 43. Transporting and delivering it is Class 39. If you only use third-party delivery apps you usually do not need Class 39.
Do I need a separate trademark for every branch?
No. One registration covers the brand nationwide in the country of registration, for all branches.
