Quick answer
A UAE trademark does not protect you in India, and the other way round — you need both. The UAE charges AED 6,500 per class and allows several classes in one application with a 30-day opposition period; India has INR fees per the official schedule, several classes in one application, and an opposition period of 4 months from the date of publication in the Trade Marks Journal. Both are in the Madrid System.

Why you need both
Trademarks are territorial: a UAE registration gives no rights in India, and the other way round. Filing early matters: an earlier application in India can block you there even if you own the mark in the UAE. Register in every market where you sell or manufacture.
How to cover both
- Through Madrid: both the UAE and India are in the Madrid System. A UAE owner can extend a UAE application or registration to India in one international application; an owner elsewhere can designate both. Each office still examines the mark under its own rules.
- Nationally in each: file directly with each office — often better when you need local wording of goods, expect objections, or want a national certificate quickly.
- Start where you sell first: file there, then claim priority in the other within 6 months (Paris Convention) so the earlier date protects you.
Good to know about India
- India applies a mixed system: registration is not required for protection, and prior users of an unregistered mark can bring passing-off actions, but filing secures statutory rights from the application date.
- Individuals, startups and small enterprises pay half the standard official fee.
- Expedited examination is available online for a fee of INR 20,000 or 40,000 per class depending on applicant type.
- Owners can apply to have a mark included in the Registry's list of well-known trade marks (official fee INR 1,00,000).
- The application must state whether the mark is already in use (with a date of first use, supported by an affidavit) or proposed to be used.
