Guide for brand owners · Costs

How much does a trademark cost?

A trademark has two costs: the official fees paid to the trademark office, and the professional fees for searching, filing and answering objections. Here are the official fees for every country we cover, side by side.

How to read the fee table

The table below shows the first official fee at each office, from the fee schedules we checked for our country guides — most-filed countries first. Many offices charge again at registration, and most charge per class. Open a country for the full breakdown.

What changes the price

  • Number of classes — almost every office charges per class.
  • Objections — an office action or opposition adds professional fees.
  • Logo vs word — some offices charge more for colour or complex marks; you may need both.
  • Madrid vs national — one international application can be cheaper across many countries; see Madrid.

Professional fees

Firms usually quote a fixed fee for search, filing and routine follow-up, and hourly for objections and disputes. On TrademarksHub, firms publish fixed-fee packages that show their fee and the official fees separately, so you can compare like with like.

A typical request on TrademarksHub

Example

“An Australian startup asks for a fixed-fee quote to file one word mark in 2 classes in Australia, the US and the UK.”

Illustrative example. On TrademarksHub requests are shown as “Private brand owner”, and only firms that cover the chosen countries can reply.

Questions

What is the cheapest way to register a trademark?
File only the classes you need, run a search first to avoid refusals, and compare fixed-fee packages. For many countries, the Madrid System can lower the total.
Are trademark fees per class?
At most offices, yes — each additional class adds an official fee.
How much is a US trademark?
USD 350 per class at the USPTO for online applications since January 2025, plus any surcharges and attorney fees.
