UAE trademark filings rise 64.2% in October 2023
1,154 new trademarks published for opposition; Class 35 (Advertising, business & retail services) leads
DUBAI, 5 November 2023 — 1,154 new trademarks were published for opposition in the UAE trademark gazette in October 2023, up 64.2% on October 2022, according to TrademarksHub’s analysis of the official bulletin.
The busiest class was Class 35 (Advertising, business & retail services), with 12% of new marks, followed by Class 43 (Restaurants, cafés & accommodation, 7%) and Class 9 (Electronics, computers & software, 6%).
The fastest-growing class on a year earlier was Class 42 (Scientific, technology & software services), up 41.4%.
Of the new marks, 897 were national UAE applications and 257 were international registrations designating the UAE under the Madrid System.
The gazette also recorded 1,458 registrations, 920 renewals and 434 transfers and changes of owner.
From January to October, 17,264 new trademarks were published, up 32.6% on the same period of 2022.
Businesses based in Dubai own 68.8% of the gazette marks held by UAE-based owners since 2021, more than any other emirate.
Over the last 12 months, the UAE trademark agents with the most new filings were Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property, Saba & Co. Intellectual Property and Al Raqeem Intellectual Property (TrademarksHub UAE Trademark Agents League Table).
