How to register a trademark in Armenia
- Search earlier marks using the Office's search tools.
- File the application with the Intellectual Property Office, online through its e-filing system or on paper.
- The Office examines the application against absolute and relative grounds for refusal set out in the Law on Trademarks.
- Applications are published in the official bulletin "Industrial Property".
- If the examination is positive, the mark is registered and the registration is published in the same bulletin.
Examination, publication and opposition
- Examination: The Intellectual Property Office receives and examines applications and registers marks; the Law on Trademarks sets out absolute (Art. 9) and relative (Art. 10) grounds for refusal, and a refusal based on an earlier right can be overcome with the earlier right holder's consent. No official processing time was found.
- Publication: Official bulletin "Industrial Property" (applications, registrations, renewals, transfers and licences)

Good to know in Armenia
- A registration can be cancelled if the mark has not been genuinely used for 3 consecutive years, a shorter period than the 5 years used in many other countries.
- Use started or resumed in the 3 months before a non-use claim is generally disregarded if the owner knew or should have known of the possible claim.
- The holder of an earlier right can seek invalidation of a registration on relative grounds within 5 years of publication of the registration.
- Renewal is requested in the last year of the term, and the Office sends a reminder in the ninth month of that final year.
