Good to know in Cabo Verde
- A new Industrial Property Code (Legislative Decree No. 2/2025, published 2 December 2025) came into force six months after publication, replacing the 2007 Code; it applies to pending applications and existing registrations and makes online filing the preferred route.
- Under the new Code the 10-year term runs from the filing date (previously from grant), and Declarations of Intention to Use, formerly due with the application and every five years, are abolished.
- The new Code drops the graphic-representation requirement, so sound, colour, shape and multimedia marks can be registered if they can be represented clearly and precisely; it also expressly allows division of applications.
- Cabo Verde can be covered by a national filing, a Madrid designation (in force since 6 July 2022), or an ARIPO application under the Banjul Protocol (in force for Cabo Verde since 14 October 2022).
