How to register a trademark in Angola

  1. Run a prior-rights search (busca de anterioridade), a service offered by IAPI.
  2. Applicants based outside Angola appoint a local agent (mandatário).
  3. File the trademark application (Marca service) with IAPI in Luanda, drafted in Portuguese and listing the goods or services; since March 2020 one fee paid at filing covers filing, publication and grant.
  4. Monitor the Industrial Property Bulletin (Boletim da Propriedade Industrial), IAPI's official publication for industrial property rights.
  5. IAPI decides on registration; the registration lasts 10 years from the filing date and is renewable.
