How to register a trademark in Pakistan
- Search the Registry's records for identical or similar marks before filing.
- File the application (Form TM-1) with the Trade Marks Registry of IPO-Pakistan, on paper or through the online filing system launched in June 2023; applicants without a residence or business in Pakistan must give an address for service in Pakistan.
- Alternatively, a holder of a Madrid international registration can designate Pakistan, a Madrid Protocol member since 24 May 2021.
- The Registry examines the application and, if accepted, advertises it in the Trade Marks Journal.
- Any person may oppose within two months of advertisement (extendable by up to two months); the applicant then has one month to file a counter-statement or the application is deemed abandoned.
- If there is no opposition, or it fails, the registration fee is paid and the mark is registered with effect from the filing date.
