## Good to know
- Trademark rights are acquired by registration (Law 17.011, art. 9).
- Owners of unregistered marks used publicly and continuously for at least one year may oppose a later application, but must then apply to register their own mark within 10 days.
- Official fees are set in Unidades Indexadas (UI), so the peso amount changes with inflation.
- Classes, goods or services from the old registration that are not claimed at renewal are treated as abandoned.
- Uruguay is a party to the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks (in force 29 April 2020) but not the Madrid Protocol.
