- **Use requirement:** a registration can be challenged after 5 years of non-use.

## Good to know
- Saudi Arabia joined the Madrid Protocol with effect from 8 October 2026; it charges an individual fee and has an 18-month period for notifying provisional refusals.
- The Saudi office will not process requests to divide an international registration, because Saudi law does not allow registrations to be divided.
- Under the GCC law the registered owner's title cannot be challenged after five years of continuous use from registration, unless an action is pending; a prior user can seek cancellation within those five years.
- Marks not seriously used for five consecutive years can be cancelled by a court at the request of an interested party.
- Saudi Arabia applies the GCC Unified Trademark Law, but registration is national: a Saudi registration does not cover other GCC states.
