4. The application is published in the trademark register within 0–3 days of filing.
5. Patentstyret examines the mark and either registers it or sends a letter about deficiencies or grounds for refusal, which must be answered by the deadline.
6. Once registered, the mark is announced in Norsk varemerketidende (Norwegian Trademark Gazette).
7. Third parties may file an opposition within 3 months of the announcement of registration.

- **Power of attorney:** If a representative is used, the application may be signed by the representative and notices go to the representative as far as the power of attorney allows. The regulations do not prescribe notarisation or legalisation.
- **Language:** Norwegian for the application and list of goods and services; other documents may be in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish or English, and the Office may ask for a Norwegian translation
- **Use requirement:** a registration can be challenged after 5 years of non-use.
